Happy New Year, Everybody!
Hope Y’all had a great Christmas, or other Seasonal Holiday, as well as New Year’s Eve and Day. We did, although COVID in the family (Son and Son n Law) has limited visiting.
Son had very mild symptoms and was back to work in minimal amount of time. Son-n-Law has mild symptoms and is on meds to help. Prayers that it’s as mild as our Son’s was.
So, 2020 is history. Whew! What about 2021?
Glad to have that one behind us, although I hate that another year is gone. My Dad used to say, when I was anxious for time to pass, “Don’t wish your life away, it will go by fast enough. In fact, time goes by faster the older you get.” He was right.
2020 ended on a good note, with The SnK getting some much needed rain, it also ended with the process to form “The SnK Wildlife Reserve 501(c)3 in the works. The lawyer will fill with the federal government when everyone gets back to work, and it falls into the work schedule.
At least The SnK Wildlife Reserve is a recognized “Franchise” according to the letter I received from the state. Within the letter is The SnK’s tax number, so we can start saving on sales taxes. I’m hoping that when all is in place, there will be a substantial savings in property taxes.
This will allow the hunting lease money to toward supporting The SnK, instead of just applying towards taxes. We’ll see.
Any way about it, we’re hoping that 2021 brings more positives, such as COVID numbers going down enough that we can host field days again this year. Fingers crossed.
Projects
As always, there’s work to be done at The SnK. We’ve begone brush removal again, as well as removal of no longer needed fencing in the “Front 40.”
New nest boxes are scheduled to go up this month, as well as removal of a Bat House that’s never been used, and is falling over in the shifting sand that it was set in.
Selena discovered a Bat sleeping under one of the eaves of the house, so we’re going to build a fresh house and mount it, if not two. More to come on that.
We’ve been talking about a rain run off panel at one of the catch areas in one of the gullies. We’ll be planning construction and moving forward on it this year.
Luckily, we have nest boxes in storage, materials for bat houses, and the catch panel, so there won’t be any cost, or very little for those projects.
Well, time to close an move on to other projects.
Here’s wishing Y’all a wonderful New Year!
Until next time, Peace!
Keith, the K in The SnK
