Organizations

Over the years, we have discovered a number of resources that we have found useful in managing The SnK Wildlife Reserve, and organizations that we feel worth being members of. Here are a number that we recommend.

We discovered Native Prairies Association of Texas at a grassland conference a number of years ago, joined, and have had reps out a number of times. NPAT, a land trust, protects and champions native lands in Texas. We’ll be leaving The SnK to NPAT in the future.

The Nature Conservancy began when leading scientists, committed citizens and dedicated leaders came together with a shared vision to protect and care for nature.

The Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation is an international nonprofit organization that protects the natural world through the conservation of invertebrates and their habitats.

The Cornell Lab of Ornithology is dedicated to advancing the understanding and protection of the natural world, the Cornell Lab joins with people from all walks of life to make new scientific discoveries, share insights, and galvanize conservation action.

Texas Bluebird Society is an all-volunteer grassroots organization helping bluebirds and other native cavity-nesting birds through increasing nesting sites while sustaining and increasing their food supply.

Selena recently discovered the Texas A&M Natural Resource Institute which offers numerous resources for land owners, and others, interested in Texas wildlife, plants, and such.

Texas Parks & Wildlife has been a great resource for us at The SnK. Several Biologists have been out, helping us learn about the land, as well as advising us on conservation projects.

Several TPWD staff assisted us in our burn, in 2017, prior to our planting native grasses and wildflowers in the “Front 40.”

Local Wildlife Management Associations can be helpful to land owners. We belong to Central DeWitt County Wildlife Management Association, mainly for the opportunity to receive Doe tags, as this organization’s members mostly do not manage land as we do at The SnK.
