October 16, 2023 Field Day

It all started with an SnK business card Matt, and I left while volunteering at LLELA back in 2020; Master Naturalist and LLELA volunteer, Laura Kimberly, reached out about visiting while they were in the area for the TMN annual meeting and as always, we were excited to show off the place. Selena got to work planning and was able to convince Lee Williamson (TPWD) and Ty Higginbotham (Oaks and Prairies Joint Venture) to make another trip out; it didn’t take much, a homecooked meal and a few hours playing outside was enough to twist their arm. It made me proud to hear that the SnK is one of their favorite places to visit, we’re lucky to have them on our team as we continue to work toward our vision for the property. Unlike the last field day back in May, the weather was perfect, the recent rains had really greened up the place, the insects were active, and the birds had started their yearly migration so there was plenty to see. The smaller group made it easy to really be involved in conversation and we enjoyed getting to know everyone, we could’ve spent hours chatting once we’d gotten back to the house for lunch. We want to thank everyone for spending the day with us and we appreciate the opportunities we’ve been given to get involved with such great organizations, we learn so much from these events and hope everyone in attendance does as well. -TSG
