After a couple days of being stuck indoors and five inches of rain I decided to take a Britto (Our 4-Wheeler) ride in the out back. The dry pond behind the house was now alive with the song of the creepy frogs that sound like they are “laughing at you,” so I knew it was now holding water.
After a short stop I continued on to the windmill pond and its looking great, with lots of water standing here and there and wildflowers beginning to bloom. I traveled down to the far back gate and ended up getting the four wheeler stuck, had to walk off and leave it sitting.
No problem, as I’ve walked this property many times. Decided to take the scenic route back to the house, shot pictures of lots of low areas and standing/running water, wildflowers and such.
Numerous animal tracks most I can id a couple I can not, pretty sure its raccoon and a partial of something else. Moved on to check out other low water crossings and wildflowers, along the way, took pictures of milkweed beginning to bloom.
Shortly after, in the woods something was growling at me. I never saw anything and it stopped, so I moved on. At woodpecker hill I noticed a wild hog in the trees, he snorted at me and moved on. I’ve learned if you hit two rocks together they think its a gun shot and they move on.
Hope to get Britto unstuck soon to take more pics, and do nest box checks. I did learn something during my outback trip, never leave without water, a walking stick, or a gun.
