May Flowers, After April Showers

The SnK has been blessed with rains this Spring. Sometimes too much at a time, but still a blessing. With that, things are growing. Good and bad.

Rain is great for wildflowers and grasses, but also for Huisache, Mesquite, and such. We won’t speak much about the nuisance plants. Here’s a few shots by Selena, hopefully to brighten your day.

Speaking of nuisance plants, weeds seems to be the top of the list when talking with folks about yards. Well, I’ve heard that a weed is simply a plant that’s growing where it’s not wanted. Dandelions seem to be very unwanted in lawns, despite the good they provide for pollinators, even humans.

Dandelions (Agoseris apargioides) are welcome additions to the front yard of The SnK Homestead.

Many folks don’t realize that Dandelions are edible; well, at least some parts. I found a link to a site that shares about several “weeds” that are edible. Please Eat the Dandelions: 9 Edible Garden Weeds The article is interesting reading, sharing plants that I have never heard of before.

Indian Blankets (Gaillardia amblyodon)
Mexican Hats (Ratibida columnifera)

If you’d like to learn the scientific names, or more information about North American native plants, you should check out the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center site. If you’re ever in the Austin area, you should check out the center personally. It’s awesome.

Well, time to get onto other stuff.

Until next time, Peace!
